Squire Hill and Long Mountain Roads

Thank you to all the residents who attended the public input meeting for Squire Hill and Long Mountain Roads on Wednesday, October 11th.  The information you provided our Public Works department and the design team from Milone and MacBroom will be instrumental in addressing the most prevalent issues concerning the roads. The opening presentation given by Milone and MacBroom may be viewed at www.newmilford.org under Project Updates.

After receiving input from the residents of both Squire Hill Road and Long Mountain Road, Milone and MacBroom will be marking the pavement for bore hole testing which will assist them in understanding the condition of the blacktop, the road base and subsurface. In addition, they will be inspecting drainage pipes, catch basins and areas where erosion has compromised the road to assure that all necessary repairs/replacements will be attended to.

Many aspects of the construction process were discussed at the meeting including how construction will affect traffic flow. A number of important issues were presented by the residents, such as which sections of the roads are to be repaired, areas where black ice occurs, the increase of trucks using the roads and keeping the character and beauty of the road intact while making it safe.

Members of the Roads Advisory Committee, who work with Public Works and the community in identifying and addressing issues with the roads, were present. The Roads Advisory Committee meetings are held every 3rd Tuesday at 7:00 pm in the Loretta Brickley Room in Town Hall. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend the meetings to give voice to your concerns.

Mayor David Gronbach
