Individual taxpayers and families may need assistance from time to time with filing federal and state income tax returns, and to be certain that they are receiving all of the appropriate credits and deductions available to them. There are numerous accounting firms and tax preparers in the community that can be of assistance. For some individuals, the cost of engaging professional services may present a barrier to them.
Residents age 60 and over may take advantage of assistance provided through a partnership of AARP and the New Milford Senior Center. Services are provided BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. Contact the New Milford Senior Center, located at 40 Main Street, New Milford, CT (on the green). Call (860) 355-6075 to schedule an appointment.
Other individuals and families may seek tax preparation assistance through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. This program offers free tax help for low-to moderate-income (under $35,000) people who cannot prepare their own federal or state tax returns. Volunteers, sponsored by local organizations, receive training to help prepare basic tax returns in communities across the country. Residents of New Milford can access these services through the Community Action Committe of Danbury (CACD). For information and appointment scheduling with CACD call (203) 744-4700.
