RECREATION & CULTURE

Leisure Pursuits

Our Great Outdoors

A vital part of the Litchfield Hills -- which is nationally and internationally recognized as Connecticut’s second most visited leisure destination -- the greater New Milford area offers scenery and activities that delight residents and tourists year round. Our rolling hills and quiet lakefronts attract visitors from near and far ... and a full schedule of recreational programs and special events help our residents take advantage of all the area’s remarkable natural assets.

Arts & Culture

Such dramatic surroundings attract, not surprisingly, a dynamic population of artists, actors, dramatists, musicians, composers and culture aficionados. The fine and performing arts are supported and enjoyed through The Commission on the Arts, the New Milford Historical Society, the Creative Arts Center, New Milford TheatreWorks, and the Merryall Center for the Arts, to name a few. The Village Green serves as scenic backdrop for numerous outdoor art exhibits. Our annual RiverFest Celebration showcases New Milford’s growing creative community, with exhibits and performances along the Housatonic River. In nearby Sherman, the Sherman Playhouse attracts discerning audiences to its Broadway-quality productions every summer.
