VOLUNTEERISM
New Milford’s vibrant “hometown” atmosphere comes in large part from our active, involved citizens.
Civic involvement is a long-time New England tradition that thousands of New Milford residents strive to live up to. In precious “off hours” from career and family obligations, conscientious men and women from every part of town contribute to public and private non-profit agencies, working to make life better for their children, their neighbors … and most of all, for the community we believe in.
Private Non-Profit Agencies:
Animal Welfare Society
United Way of Western CT
Interface Center
Loaves & Fishes
Red Cross
Rail Service Restoration Society
The Pratt Center
Town Commissions & Agencies:
Board of Education
Commission on Aging/Senior Center
Commission on Arts
Conservation Commission
Economic Development Commission
Inland Wetlands Commission
Parks & Recreation Commission
Planning Commission
Volunteer Fire Department
Youth Agency/Teen Center
Zoning Commission

If you don’t have a core of dedicated volunteers at your town’s heart, there’s nothing else that can make up for that … It’s a sense of commitment you see reflected in their jobs, and their families ...
I marvel at the number of people who participate in the area’s volunteer programs, even as today’s fast-paced, dual-income pressures leave us so little free time.
Those who make the time are such an example for everyone else. A lot of communities are losing that sense of inspiration and obligation, as volunteerism dips to new lows. But not New Milford.
There are still so many people helping out to improve the community.
