Admission: FREE (Limited seating)
For our performance, "An Evening Of Brazilian Music And Latin Jazz," guitarist Peter Griggs has designed a program that transports listeners to a tropical world of the imagination. Internationally recognized as a guitarist with a delicate touch on his instrument, Griggs will explore the cool Brazilian sounds of bossa nova and samba, Cuban music alla the Buena Vista Social Club, jazz standards with a Latin touch, Nuevo flamenco, his own compositions - and a songbook with everything from Thelonious Monk to the Beatles. He performances combine Spanish and Brazilian guitar techniques with a jazz musician's sensibility and an openness to new influences like world music. The result is a refreshingly different approach to the classical guitar.
A native of New York City, guitarist/composer Peter Griggs has performed extensively throughout the USA and Europe, with nearly 300 concerts in recent years in Germany, the United Kingdom, the Low Countries, Scandinavia, the Baltic countries, France, Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic and Croatia. He has composed for internationally-known theatre and dance groups including Pan Asia Repertory Theatre (NYC) and Compania Nacional de Danza de Espana (Madrid). His soundtracks for documentary film and radio drama have been broadcast on WNET-TV (NY), National Public Radio (USA) and at the World-Wide Video Festival (The Hague, Netherlands). He has recorded on Treecastle Music, Folkways Records, Locust Records and Music of the World.
