New Milford Town Council Endorse Creation of Economic Development Corporation
The New Milford Town Council endorsed the creation of a new Economic Development Corporation to serve the Town of New Milford, at its regular meeting on September 27, 2010. Following a presentation by Economic Development Supervisor Vin Nolan and Economic Development Commission Chairman Frank Wargo, the Town Council voted to support the filing of the new non-profit corporation by Mayor Patricia Murphy, Mr. Wargo and Mr. Nolan. The New Milford Economic Development Corporation will provide an additional tool to promote job growth and tax base expansion in New Milford. It will be modeled on a number of other local economic development corporations throughout the region. Guided by a board that will largely be constituted from the private sector, as well as municipal officials, the new entity will make loans and grants available to local businesses to assist them in growth and expansion. The loan funds will come from state and federal agency programs, private sector contributions and other non-profit foundations.
