JOB DESCRIPTION
Outreach Counselor I
Non-Union/Part-Time
General Statement of Duties:
Provides counseling, outreach services and educational programming. Works within a structure of schools, home, juvenile justice system, and other social service systems.
Supervision Received:
Administrative and operational supervision received from the Agency’s Executive Director and Intervention Program Manager. Clinical supervision received from the Agency’s Clinical Supervisor. In the absence of the Intervention Program Manager reports to the Executive Director of the Youth Agency.
General Duties:
Knowledge, Skills and Ability: Knowledge of and the ability to provide individual, family and group counseling practices. Ability to work independently in a professional manner. Experience in creating and implementing youth programming with positive results. Good oral and written skills with an ability to motivate the client. Willingness to work flexible hours including mandatory evenings and Saturdays. Ability to work under demanding deadlines and changing priorities and conditions. Ability to stand or sit and work continuously for extended periods of time while performing job functions. Must be able to deal effectively with the public, town officials and Board members and associates on an ongoing basis. Must be willing to attend courses, seminars or trainings as needed. Knowledge of confidentiality guidelines with respect to counseling. Must adhere to designated schedule as directed by the Executive Director of the Youth Agency or his/her designee. Must provide Director with weekly activity report/caseload report. Must comply with State Department of Education quarterly statistical report in timely and accurate fashion covering data on all clients. Must be able to take direction from and follow through with Clinical Supervisor’s or Executive Director’s mandates in a timely and professional manner. Education, Training and Experience : A Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Sociology, Family Studies or related fields. Three year’s experience providing direct- service counseling and outreach services and a demonstrated ability to perform the duties of the position. Must hold a valid Connecticut motor vehicle license. Must be willing to submit to a background check including finger printing and state arrest record search.
