At a July 7th Purchasing Meeting, Mayor Patricia Murphy moved to reject the single bid received for Phase II of the Railroad Street project. Since then, a fresh coat of asphalt has been laid from one end of Railroad Street to the other. This asphalt is temporary and intended to allow a smooth and safe passage into our downtown area. Park on Patriot’s way and visit the many merchants, shops and restaurants that make our community so unique. Where else can you get so much done without even moving your car?
Really… you can get your hair done, rent home repair equipment for the weekend, purchase some fertilizer for your lawn, grab a gift for Aunt Mary, meet a business associate for lunch, pick-up the dry-cleaning, grab a bottle of wine and pick–up dinner and dessert - all on the same street.!!!
While you are enjoying the tranquility of Railroad Street, please know that we are still hard at work on this project. Our engineers are diligently working with the State to review the project, its specs and components in anticipation of sending this project to bid by mid-November of this year. Bidding during November is almost sure to be more successful as many construction companies are beginning to prepare for the following Spring construction season.
We will once again hold to the guidelines set forth by the Federal and State Government, as this portion of the project will be paid for with grant money. We will use $500,000 received from the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as well as $420,000 received from Connecticut’s Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) to complete this project.
