7/7/2015 - Current Status of John Pettibone School

The school is still managed by the Board of Education and is scheduled to be turned over to the Town on September 30, 2015.

After that date, the Town will be hosting community forums to hear ideas for future use and financing of the property.  The property cannot be sold without the approval of a Special Town Meeting, regardless of the future use potential.

My office has received questions about items being discarded at the John Pettibone School site.  I have been told by the school administration that they are in the process of moving useable, safe and date compliant items and materials that teachers and staff can utilize in our other schools.  I have also been told that everything usable that teachers and staff wanted has been shrink-wrapped and moved to other school locations by professional movers.

At the end of every school year all of the schools get rid of damaged, broken and aged out items.  The district has a contract with the current dumpster provider that includes daily pickup at John Pettibone School at no additional cost to the district.

The school playground equipment is being dismantled to be moved to other locations.  The Creative Playground is not part of John Pettibone School property, nor are the athletic fields.

If you have any questions about this process, please call the Board of Education Administrative Offices at 860-355-8406 or my office at 860-355-6010.  I will be glad to help you find answers to your questions.

Thank you,
Mayor Patricia Murphy
