5/1/2014 - June is Renewal Month for Dog Licensing in CT

Be sure to check that your dog’s rabies shots are up to date or for any changes that may be needed to license them since last registered.
This notice is a reminder that all dogs over six months old must be registered in the Town Clerk’s Office each year during the month of June.  Licenses will begin being issued on June 1st.  The registration deadline is June 30th.  A $1.00 late charge is assessed per animal for each month that the registration is late.

The charge for a male or female dog is $19.00; while the charge for a neutered or spayed dog is $8.00 (written proof is required).  If the dog was spayed or neutered at the time of original registration, written proof is not required.

All owners must submit a rabies certificate from a licensed veterinarian at the time of registration. Proof of an updated rabies vaccination is needed only if the date on the renewal card has expired.

Kennel owners must also register, and can call (860) 355-6020 to verify fees.  Rabies certificates are not required for kennels.
TO SAVE TIME AND AVOID WAITING, registration can be done through the mail. Send a check payable to Town Clerk, for the appropriate fee, proof of rabies vaccination, proof of spaying or neutering and a self addressed stamped envelope to Town Clerk, 10 Main Street, New Milford, CT 06776.

The Town Clerk’s office is running a contest called “The Coolest Canine” to be the winner of dog license tag #1 for the year 2014.
To enter, bring or mail a 4x6 vertical photo of your dog to: Town Clerk, 10 Main St.       New Milford, CT 06776.
On the back of the photo write the name of the dog, owners name and phone number.
Entry period is May1st – May 16th.
We are also accepting donations of dog or cat items to help the Social Services Department in New Milford. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.
