 NOTICE:  January 2016

Notice is hereby given to the taxpayers of the Town of New Milford that the second installment of the Real Estate and Personal Property taxes on the October 1, 2014 Grand List becomes due and payable on January 1, 2016.

Also due on January 1st is the Supplemental Motor Vehicle tax (vehicles newly registered after October 1, 2014 and before September 30, 2015).  Supplemental bills will be mailed in December.

Payment must be received or postmarked by February 1, 2016 to avoid an interest penalty.  Interest is charged at the rate of 1.5% per month from the due date (January 1, 2016).  The minimum interest charge is $2.00.

FAILURE  TO  RECEIVE  A  TAX  BILL  DOES  NOT  INVALIDATE  THE  TAX  OR  INTEREST.

The Tax Collector’s Office hours are
8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday – Friday.

Please mail payments in January and July directly to our Banks Lockbox Service to the following address:
Town of New Milford
PO Box 150416, Hartford, CT 06115-0416

MasterCard, Visa or Discover may be utilized in person with an additional 2% surcharge in the office.

For your convenience payments can also be made online at www.newmilford.org out of a checking or savings account for an additional .50¢ fee.  Payments made online with a credit card will have an addition 3% fee added.

Taxpayers who choose to use their own financial institution’s ‘electronic bill pay’ service should be aware that checks from their banks must be RECEIVED BY the last day to pay, or the taxpayer will be charged interest. This is so because these checks are not postmarked by the U.S. Postal Service. Normally, the postmark controls, but if there is no postmark, timeliness depends solely upon the tax collector’s RECEIPT of the payment. Taxpayers who use their own banks’ ‘electronic bill pay’ services should process their transactions at least 10 days before the last day to pay, to ensure that their payment reaches the tax collector’s office on time.

Please be advised we may use any enforcement tool available by Connecticut State Statute to pursue and collect on delinquent taxes.

Delinquent bills have been turned over to an attorney and collection agency for collection.  It is in your best interest to pay your taxes to avoid the added expense and the possibility of your property being put on the list for the next tax sale scheduled for the Spring/Summer of 2016.
