Exemptions

BLINDNESS (State)

To receive a $3000 assessment exemption, certification of blindness must be obtained from:

State of Connecticut

Department of Human Resources

Board of Education and Services for the Blind

170 Ridge Rd

Wethersfield, CT 060109 

This certificate should be filed with the Assessor's Office by October 1st

ADDITIONAL BLIND EXEMPTION (Town)

Any person receiving the State Blind Exemption can apply for an additional $2000 Town exemption off the assessment. Income requirements are the same as the Elderly Homerowners.

TOTALLY DISABLED PERSONS

To receive a $1000 assessment exemption, you must file a Totally Disabled Tax Exemption Form D-1, along with proof of permanent total disability from the Social Security Administration, by October 1st. This exemption allows you to file under the Elderly or Disabled Benefit.
