Family and Children's Programs

Throughout the year, Social Services offers programs and activities aimed at enriching the lives of our community's income eligible families and children. These programs are described below:

Baby Bundles:  New Milford Social Services is an intake site for the monthly diaper distribution program run by the First Congregational Church of New Milford.  Distribution takes place on the third Wednesday of every month, between 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. at the Church Parish Center, 36 Main Street, New Milford, CT. It is the one-story building located in the back of the Church. Proof of residency and income will be needed at the time of appointment.

Back to School Program: Social Services is the intake site for the United Way's Back to School Campaign. Each child, going into K-12 grade, receives a pack full of school supplies and a gift card for clothing, if donations allow.  Registration begins in Spring each year, please check with our office and watch for emails and our newsletter. Space is limited

Bike Day: A distribution of refurbished bikes to school-aged children (through teen age) in early summer. Bike Day is co-sponsored by the New Milford Youth Agency. Registration for this program (through Social Services). This program usually begins registration in May.  Youth may register every two years and receive a new helmet in the first year of participation. Next Bike Day is Summer of 2024. (limited space and no guarantee of all sizes of bikes will be donated)

Summer Camps: New Milford Social Services offers resources for scholarships for local summer camps.

We  coordinate local participation with Camp CONNRI for children ages 7-12. Since this camp lasts five days, it is a perfect introduction to “sleep-away” camp. Run by the Salvation Army and located in Ashford, CT, this camp offers a full range of activities such as swimming, boating, archery, team sports, arts and crafts and nature studies. It is a Christian-based camp, but children of all religious backgrounds are welcome. The cost is $35.

Scholarships:  New Milford Social Services is an intake site for determination of scholarships for the Town of New Milford Parks and Recreation programs and camps and for New Milford Youth Agency. Limited funds are available. Please have information about the program you are interested in for your child before requesting a scholarship.

Scholarships may also be available through MVP-SOS for other, non-town dept. children's enrichment, sport, and extra curricular organizations. Their application is at our office or MVPSOS application.
