Volunteering for Social Services
We welcome volunteers interested in lending their talents, time, and compassion. Volunteering is one of the most important aspects of a community that is strong and unified. It gives its members a chance to feel involved, help others, and give back for a good deed done for them.
For volunteer opportunities, please contact our Program and Volunteer Coordinator, Wanda Fyler who can be reached by email at wfyler@newmilfordct.gov or by phone at 860-355-6079 x2.
Guidelines to volunteering for Social Services:
The majority of our volunteer help is in the Food Bank or for seasonal events and activities. The ability to lift and bend is essential to fulfilling the duties involved with these programs..
Most volunteer opportunities are offered during our regular office hours of Monday through Friday, 8:30am-4pm. There are occasional events that do take place on a select weekend or evening.
Students! - helping to organize and stock the food bank is a great opportunity, or sign up for our special food-raisers: Walk a Mile for a Meal (September) or USPS Stamp Out Hunger (May).
Community Service required by a school or community group available; please contact the volunteer coordinator for opportunities.
Children under the age of 18 must have a parent sign permission for their child to volunteer.
[Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult or group leader. Please contact our volunteer coordinator to discuss this further. Opportunities are limited.]
All volunteers over the age of 18 must be fingerprinted through the town and approved.
Town policy does not permit us to offer volunteer services to individuals assigned community service by the court or in anticipation of a court order.
Please fill out forms below and return them to our office, unless otherwise specified. Our volunteer coordinator will review your request.
